Jobs–Housing Balance Re-Re-Visited

چکیده
Problem, research strategy, and findings In many U.S. metropolitan areas housing costs have skyrocketed in recent years relative to average incomes. A worsening shortage of affordable these metros may push households away from job-rich cities expensive neighborhoods into outlying areas, where is cheaper but jobs are more distant. To examine this issue, we revisit the jobs–housing balance, a popular topic 1990s, with focus on relationship between spatial location workers jobs. Our analysis draws data Longitudinal Employer–Household Dynamics Origin–Destination Employment Statistics (LODES) for California 2002 2015. contrast earlier balance research, find that becoming less self-contained over time, defined as decline number who both live work within jurisdiction commuters travel either or out city work. Statistical models show self-containment was higher lower and, 2015, greater employed residents.Takeaway practice The deepening affordability crisis like those found pushing farther apart, increasing economic, social, environmental commuting. Policies increase supply high–housing cost could help reverse troubling trend, though they likely meet considerable resistance. also underscore importance efforts include extend beyond production, such policies better match job skills prices characteristics workers.

TCP performance re-visited
Detailed measurements and analyses for the Linux-2.4 TCP stack on current adapters and processors are presented. We describe the impact of CPU scaling and memory bus loading on TCP performance. As CPU speeds outstrip I/O and memory speeds, many generally accepted notions of TCP performance begin to unravel. In-depth examinations and explanations of previously held TCP performance truths are pro...
متن کاملUtilization Bound Re-visited
Utilization bound is a well-known concept introduced in the seminal paper of Liu and Layland, which provides a simple and practical way to test the schedulability of a real-time task set. The original utilization bound for the fixed-priority scheduler was given as a function of the number of tasks in the periodic task set. In this paper, we define the utilization bound as a function of the info...
متن کاملIteration Functions re-visited
Two classes of Iteration Functions (IFs) are derived in this paper. The first (one-point IFs) was originally derived by Joseph Traub using a different approach to ours (simultaneous IFs). The second is new and is demonstrably shown to be more informationally efficient than the first. These IFs apply to polynomials with arbitrary complex coefficients and zeros, which can also be multiple.
متن کاملPaediatric acute epiglottitis re-visited.
INTRODUCTION Paediatric acute epiglottitis is rare in Asia. The National University Hospital in Singapore has seen only two cases of paediatric acute epiglottitis in the last 10 years. The topic is re-visited here to remind physicians of its acutely dramatic progression. CLINICAL PICTURE Both boys presented with a viral prodrome which progressed within hours to life-threatening upper airway o...
متن کاملUnconditionally Secure Multiparty Set Intersection Re-Visited
In this paper, we re-visit the problem of unconditionally secure multiparty set intersection in information theoretic model. Li et.al [24] have proposed a protocol for n-party set intersection problem, which provides unconditional security when t < n 3 players are corrupted by an active adversary having unbounded computing power. Moreover, they have claimed that their protocol takes six rounds ...
